James Wood Memorial Service and Common Hall 11th July 2007
Just before 5 o'clock in the evening of the 11th July the Reverend Dr Alan McCormack the new Chaplain and the Clerk arrived at St Nicolas Cole Abbey and with difficulty gained access through the back door. Shortly afterwards they were joined by members of the Company to participate in a short service of remembrance for the Company's benefactor, James Wood who is buried in the Church. The Chaplain introduced the service reminding us of his gift to the Company he also asked us to remember the three soldiers from the Worcestershire and Sherwood Forester's Regiment who had recently died in Afghanistan: Land Corporal Sandford, Drummer Wright and Captain Dolan. At the end of the service the Master laid the traditional wreath of yellow flowers on the memorial.
The party then walked to the offices of CBRE where the Company's biennial Common Hall was held. The agenda was based upon the Annual Report which is published in the Member's Only Area. A Report of the discussion held is available in the Members' Area.
On completion of Common Hall the party walked to Davy's Wine Bar in Creed lane for supper, where they were welcomed with jugs flowing with beer and glasses of white and red wine. After which we all sat down to supper and enjoyed a generous helping of smoked salmon, lamb steaks with new potatoes and mushy peas followed by an excellent cheese board of Brie, Cheddar and Stilton. conversation and wine then flowed until closing time.
