The Mercian Regiment Annual Pilgrimage, Sunday 7th July 2013

On Sunday 7th July the Master and Court Assistant Mark Elliott attended the Annual Pilgrimage of the Mercian Regiment to the Memorial at Crich in Derbyshire.

Built in 1923 the unique 'Lanterene-de-mortes' War Memorial was dedicated to the 11,409 men of the Sherwood Foresters Regiment who had been killed in the First World War. With the amalgamation of regiments over the years the memorial was named the 'Memorial to the Fallen' and dedicated in 2008 to all those who have lost their lives on operational service serving with the Mercian Regiment.

After a moving service conducted by the Assistant Bishop of Southall the new Colonel of the Regiment, Brigadier Andrew Williams OBE addressed the Pilgrimage before leading dignitaries associated with the Mercian Regiment in laying wreaths at the memorial.
