New Master's Dinner, Thursday 24th July 2014

Introduction

The New Master's Dinner took place on the evening of 24 July 2014 in the highly atmospheric setting of Armourers' Hall in Coleman Street, chaired of course by the new Master Bowyer, The Reverend John Hayton TD. By tradition this dinner is for members only, which always makes it a delightfully relaxed evening among friends.

After dinner the Immediate Past Master Michael Wren reviewed the many enjoyable events of his past two years, and wished the new Master every success. The new Master thanked his predecessor for all his hard work on our behalf, and enthusiastically outlined the programme of events planned for his own term of office, during which will fall the celebrations of the 600th anniversary of the famous English victory at Agincourt in 1415.

For the excellent four-course meal the new Master had pulled northern rank to insist that Lancashire Beef be replaced by Yorkshire Lamb, and a highlight of the reception and dinner was the music he had arranged including the trumpets of Stephen Fletcher's London Banqueting Ensemble, whose performance of the Posthorn Gallop was reckoned by the military men present to be finer than any they'd ever heard.

At the preceding Court meeting, Liveryman Simon Leach was sworn in as a Court Assistant, Freeman Sebastian Pooley was clothed in the Livery, and Professor Jonathan Perks MBE was admitted to the Freedom of the Company; all three were welcomed at the dinner.
