Royal Hospital Chelsea Visit
On the evening of Wednesday, 10th November, a small party of Bowyers had the great privilege of a personally-guided tour of the Royal Hospital Chelsea by our Mercian antecedent-Regiment Chelsea In-Pensioner, John Byrne (one of only a few authorised Royal Hospital Tour-Guides). John gave us a fascinating and detailed historical tour of the Hospital with particular attention on the splendid Dining Hall, the Wren Chapel and – a particular privilege as they are not normally open to members of the public – the State Apartments. The evening finished with a very convivial couple of drinks and lots of discussion in the “Club” – the Chelsea Pensioners’ bar – with John and also our other Mercian antecedent-Regiment Chelsea In-Pensioner, Jim Fellows. An excellent evening was had by all! As a Thank You, the Bowyers’ party made kind donations to the Royal Hospital Chelsea Charity and also to the Mercian Benevolent Charity.
