Master Bowyer's Letter

In my Master's September Letter I've been delighted to reflect on the many convivial events in our Bowyers' Company year to date, from Waterloo to HQS Wellington, from St George to City Walk and Common Hall, from Tower of London to Brewers' Hall, and the battlefields of Crecy and Agincourt; and to mention the Agincourt 600 activities going on too, including the resplendent Guildhall City Banquet on Sep 22.

We can now settle down a bit for our Autumn and Winter schedule; the dates are alongside. I'm particularly looking forward to a bumper Bowyer turnout for our own Agincourt Dinner on October 22nd at Cutlers' Hall, when our we'll be joined by our fellow 'warrior' Masters of the Armourers, the Cutlers, the Fletchers and the Gunmakers. Our principal guest will be Brigadier Brian Parriitt CBE, a former Director of the Intelligence Corps.

Crecy and Agincourt Battlefields July 24-25

On a damp July Friday morning a party of 24 Bowyers and guests gathered for a two-day trip to the scenes of the historic longbow triumphs of Crecy and Agincourt. It being the morning after the Bowyers' summer Livery Dinner, the smooth coach ride from London and calm crossing from Dover on the P&O Ferry were most welcome. Our overnight destination was Montreuil, a lovely medieval walled town fairly near both the Crecy and Agincourt battlefields, which some had seen before on previous Bowyer trips, but for many was a first visit.
