Bowyers' Prize Day 12th July 2008

The Master with the Medal Winners: Andy Rikunenko, Bernie Dix, Mark Spruce, Master, Jill Newland, Vikki Gallop Kay Smith

On Saturday the 12th July, a dull and overcast day, ten of Bowyers led by the Master visited the Shooting Ground of the Royal Toxophilite Society at Burnham Beeches, to watch the shooting and presentation of prizes.

The day is sponsored by the Company which pays for all the catering and the prizes.

Individual Archers are invited to compete by the Royal Toxophilite Society and It is an open competition to Archers who come from all over the Country to compete. Unfortunately many of the more experienced archers were away practicing for the Olympic Games resulting in only thirty competitors taking part, a significant drop on previous years.

The Bowyers, some of whom had enjoyed an excellent lunch at the Yew Tree Pub in Frieth, were welcomed by the President Mr Roy Gallop. In the company of some members of the Society some of the party walked along the field watching the Competitors shoot.

The Company donates medals, gold and silver which are awarded for 1st and 2nd for Ladies shooting the Hereford round (80, 60 and 50 yards) using re-curve bows and a bronze medal is awarded for the Lady coming first with a composite bow. Gentlemen shoot the York round (100, 80 and 60 yards).

The winners this year were:

Ladies Hereford Round
Recurve First Lady: Jill Newland
Second Lady: Vikki Gallop
Compound First Lady: Kay Smith

Gentlemens York Round
Recurve First Gentleman: Mark Spruce
Second Gentleman: Bernie Dick
Compound First Gentleman: Andy Rikunenko

Towards the end of the shoot members of the Company visited the shooting line and spoke to a number of the competitors after which they then enjoyed a pleasant afternoon tea of sandwiches, scones with cream and strawberry and cake. In his speech prior to the presentation of the Prizes the Master thanked all those concerned with the organisation of the Day: The match secretary Tim Jackson, The Fields Captain Ian Carr and the Ladies who prepared the food, Margaret, Rosemary, Carol and Lara.
