Joint Dinner with the Fletchers 28th May 2009

On the gentle spring evening of the 28th of May after it' meeting in Guildhall Members of he Court walked to Farmers' and Fletchers' Hall where they joined other members of the Company. The Dinner this year was hosted by the Master Fletcher Captain AM Poulter OBE who welcomed us. A fine sparkling wine was served as an aperitif. Promptly at 7.15pm the Beadle announced that Dinner was served. Members of both Companies took their places. Once in position the Masters' processed with their Wardens and Clerks to the traditional slow handclap. Grace was then said by the Reverend John Hayton.

The first course of Watts farm asparagus with poached hens egg and Lancashire micro cress accompanied by a pleasant Louis Jadot Macon Blanc 2004 was served. This was followed by very tasty slow roasted Norfolk belly pork with spring onion mash fricassee of summer vegetables and sage jus accompanied by Cave Co-operative de St Emilion 2004. Finally the last course of Lavender and vanilla cheesecake with Hampshire strawberries was served.

After sung grace and the Loyal Toast the Master Fletcher made a short and witty speech of welcome ending with the toast to the Bowyers Company "root and branch may it continue to flourish for ever coupled with the name of the Master". Mr P harrow the master Bowyer made a short speech in reply during which he introduced Bernard Waples and Christian Major as new Freemen to the Company and Tony Baldry as a Freeman.

Afterwards the Company retired for a stirrup cup where a photograph of the two clerks was displayed standing next to each other in their school rugby team!!!
