Joint Shoot - Tower of London 1st July 2009

Under clear blue skies members of the Bowyers and Fletchers Companies met for the annual inter company shoot in the East Moat of the Tower of London on Wednesday 1st July.

This year for the first time the shooting ground was set up, organised and supervised by Ian McGibbon and two colleagues from the London Archers. While the shooting ground was being set up the two Clerks with some willing assistants set up the bar to serve the traditional Pimms.

Guests began to arrive just before 6pm and eventually the shooting began with both Masters stepping up to the line. The Master Fletcher scored a gold with his first shot!!!!, the Master Bowyer not being quite so accurate. Afterwards as tradition dictates all members of the Companies and their guests were invited to shoot in the competition in between enjoying some excellent canapés washed down with Pimm's.

Just before 8pm the party moved from the moat through the East Gate into the Tower and headed for the Regimental Mess of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers to enjoy, as ever, an excellent supper.

Afterwards during coffee the Master Fletcher made a short speech of welcome followed by a words of thanks from the Master Bowyer. The Deputy Governor of the Tower then presented the prize to this year's winners, The Fletchers' Company, in the form of a small replica of a bow box which had been used to bury Anne Boleyn. Fletchers' please note it was a bow box and not an arrow box.

Afterwards some members of the party left the Tower while the remainder watched the Ceremony of the Keys.
