Tower of London Shoot 20 June

Each summer 30 Bowyers and 30 Fletchers have the great privilege of taking part in an inter-company archery competition in the East Moat of the Tower of London, followed by dinner together in the Fusiliers' Mess there, and this year's shoot was blessed with the midsummer evening heat of Tuesday 20 June.

The London Archers kindly coached and supervised our modest efforts to hit the targets. The scoring was as usual quite close; the Governor's Trophy, having narrowly gone to the Bowyers in 2016, reverted narrowly to the Fletchers in 2017. At dinner afterwards in the atmospheric setting of the Fusiliers' Mess, adjacent to their Museum with its captured Napoleonic Eagle, the rivalry of the shoot was put aside over a friendly dinner, and grateful thanks expressed by both Masters to the Governor of the Tower of London and the Tower event staff, and to the Fusiliers in the person of their London Area Regimental Secretary, Major Mick McCarthy.
